highlights
In the Neuchâtel Region, culture unfolds through UNESCO watchmaking towns, Belle Epoque elegance, contemporary creativity and major artistic events.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the towns of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle showcase a unique urban design created to meet the needs of the watchmaking industry and shaped by light, precision and functionality. This living heritage can be discovered through guided city tours, at the Espace de l’urbanisme horloger, as well as at the Musée d’horlogerie du Locle | Château des Monts and the Musée international d’horlogerie. On 14 and 15 June, the “World Heritage Days – Watchmaking Town Planning” will celebrate this exceptional heritage through guided visits, activities and discoveries in both UNESCO-listed towns.
For watchmaking enthusiasts, visits to manufactures and workshops organised by WatchExplorer.Swiss also provide fascinating insight into Neuchâtel’s watchmaking expertise.
In Neuchâtel, culture combines historical elegance, yellow stone architecture and contemporary creativity. The town preserves remarkable traces of the Belle Époque, visible in its architecture, lakeside promenades and refined lifestyle. Guided tours, treasure hunts and urban escape games invite visitors to travel back in time. The lakeside town also embraces the world of fantasy with the Tour du Fantastique, a new museum space dedicated to fantasy worlds and creativity, echoing the universe of J. R. R. Tolkien and the works of renowned illustrator John Howe.
The region’s cultural calendar is also marked by the return of Art Môtiers. From 20 June onwards, this iconic art event takes over the village of Môtiers and the Val-de-Travers with open-air contemporary artworks, monumental installations and artistic trails combining art, heritage and nature. A unique opportunity to experience contemporary creation in a spectacular and inspiring setting.
Between UNESCO watchmaking heritage, Belle Époque atmosphere, fantasy worlds and contemporary art, the Neuchâtel Region offers a distinctive cultural richness where time, history, art and imagination meet.
