Just a few steps from the city centre, the Museums Park forms a major cultural hub in the heart of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Recently redesigned, it brings together three leading institutions: the International Museum of Horology (MIH), dedicated to the measurement of time and the importance of watchmaking; the Museum of Fine Arts (MBA), presenting collections and exhibitions devoted to the visual arts; and the History Museum (MH), which explores the history of the city and its inhabitants.
The park is also well worth a visit in its own right. In front of the International Museum of Horology stands its monumental carillon, a work by Onelio Vignando. Part sculpture, part clock and part musical instrument, it brings the park to life every quarter of an hour with its bells, moving elements and melodies that change with the seasons.
Visitors of all ages can also enjoy the park’s relaxing spaces and playground. Another curiosity is the AltiMille, which marks the exact altitude of 1,000 metres, an emblematic elevation for La Chaux-de-Fonds. Standing on its platform places your feet at precisely this altitude.
For a relaxing break, the Café des Musées, located on the ground floor of the History Museum, serves drinks and light meals. Open to everyone, even without visiting the museums, it also features a pleasant terrace overlooking the park during the warmer months.
Combining culture, watchmaking heritage, relaxation and conviviality, the Museums Park is an ideal place to discover the many facets of La Chaux-de-Fonds.
