Located in the Museums Park, the AltiMille highlights one of the defining features of La Chaux-de-Fonds: its altitude. Step onto the platform and your feet will be exactly 1,000 metres above sea level.
In La Chaux-de-Fonds, being 1,000 metres above sea level is more than just a figure! Located in the Museums Park, the AltiMille offers an original and playful way to experience the altitude that is so characteristic of the city.
The principle is simple: the concrete platform is positioned so that the feet of anyone standing on it are exactly 1,000 metres above sea level. A steel pointer marks this level, while a graduated scale shows how many centimetres the visitor’s own height adds to those famous 1,000 metres.
The AltiMille was presented to the City of La Chaux-de-Fonds in 2006 by VAC René Junod SA to mark the company’s 100th anniversary.
Just a few steps from the three museums and the Chime of the International Museum of Horology, the AltiMille offers a small but unusual experience – and the perfect opportunity to take a souvenir photo with your feet quite literally 1,000 metres above sea level.
