Nestled in an exceptional natural setting and a culturally rich region, Biel Seeland Tourism is committed to promoting responsible and forward-looking tourism.
This commitment was recognized in 2026 with the designation of Swisstainable Destination Level I – committed. The distinction acknowledges the joint efforts of the destination and its tourism partners to foster sustainable development and is valid for the next four years.
As part of the program “Biel Seeland: On the Path to a Sustainable Destination,” supported by the New Regional Policy of the Canton of Bern, Biel Seeland Tourism has initiated a multi-step process to connect and coordinate regional tourism stakeholders :
Sustainability Radar – A survey conducted among regional providers to assess their sustainability practices and identify areas for further development.
Responsible Tourism Page – Collection and development of sustainability-related information within the destination, made available through this website.
Swisstainable – support for regional tourism providers in joining the program through workshops and complimentary advisory services.
Development of Sustainable Offers – Upcoming project in collaboration with regional tourism providers to create collaborative and responsible offers, including an in-person workshop.
Sustainability Guide – Provision of a sustainability guide bringing together recommendations and key contacts for implementing sustainable measures and the Swisstainable programme. It is available at the following link:
Other responsible projects
Seeland sans souci - A program to identify and develop tourism offers accessible to all within the destination, in collaboration with Claire & George.
Accessible Tour of Switzerland – Participation of Biel Seeland in a travel program for people with limited mobility or in need of assistance during their holidays.
Visitors’ Perception of Sustainability in the Destination- A survey conducted in collaboration with students from HES-SO Valais/Wallis to better align with visitor expectations.
Gastro Futura Bern Mitteland - A project to develop the region’s sustainable gastronomy and food production network, led by SANU and supported by TBS in terms of communication and networking. Support for the organization of the Producers’ Arena Biel.
Solar Platform Seeland – A close collaboration within the framework of the “Biel Seeland: on the path to a sustainable destination” program, aiming to connect energy and tourism.
In addition, Biel Seeland Tourism has provided occasional support to various projects promoting biodiversity, accessibility, or local culture—such as Schön & Wild, Natur Schule See Land, OK:GO, Park Chasseral, and others.
