How is Biel connected to the world? The exhibition explores this question, showing the diverse relationships surrounding goods, money and ideas that have connected Biel and the world over time – and which continue to shape the economy and culture today. The NMB team has selected ten ‘flagship objects’. They form surprising narrative strands and trigger many associations. These include a beaver fur hat once worn by museum founder Dora Neuhaus, a Roman oil amphora from Spain and a wooden stick for fabric printing from the 19th century. Each of these objects opens up a thematic field. Other exhibits are grouped around them, revealing new perspectives, unexpected stories and unusual connections. The exhibition does not tell a linear story: as a visitor, you decide for yourself which thematic paths you want to follow. This allows you to develop a deeper understanding of the dynamics between local events and global change.
