Peaceful nature reserve along the Old Aare, with observation tower

Between Biel/Bienne and Büren, the Häftli nature reserve follows the course of a former branch of the Aare River for nearly 7 km. Classified as an alluvial zone of national importance, it offers a range of diverse habitats: open water areas, mudflats, alluvial forests, and wet meadows. These habitats mainly attract numerous waterbirds Careful walkers can also spot beaver tracks, insects and rare plants.
For a complete, enjoyable visit to the Häftli reserve: start your journey in Büren an der Aare and cross the pretty wooden covered bridge to the outdoor swimming pool, then continue along the branch of the old Aare as far as Meinisberg. Once you've passed Meinisberg, continue alongside the river. You will reach a picnic spot and the only beach open to bathing in the reserve: make the most of it!
Finally, finish your exploration by walking along the Old Aare until it flows back into the Aare and then head out onto the peninsula to reach the observation tower, from which you can admire the surrounding landscape and many species. In 3 hours, you should be back in Büren an der Aare.
