Gender-based violence is an urgent societal issue. It does not begin with physical violence alone, but is rooted in everyday gender roles, normalized behaviours, and invisible power structures.
In her exhibition “Zagara – Ciò che resta”, photographer Tiziana Amico explores these invisible mechanisms, from gender stereotypes passed down through generations to media representations, as well as intergenerational silence and trauma.
As part of this evening event, she will engage in a dialogue with Stefanie Nuozzi and Cristina Froidevaux-Di Benedetto from the association Solidarité Femmes Biel/Bienne & Region. Together, they will discuss how artistic practice and concrete prevention and support work can complement one another. How can images and stories help raise public awareness, empower those affected, and make prevention more effective? What role do stereotypes, silence, and cultural narratives play in the emergence and perpetuation of violence? And how can we act collectively to ensure that prevention not only responds to the consequences of violence, but also addresses its root causes?
This evening will provide a space for exchange, reflection, and dialogue on how art and social work can join forces to make violence against women visible and contribute to its long-term prevention.
