On the shores of the largest lake in the Jura mountains
Leaving from the Tourist Office at Le Sentier, the route follows the River Orbe for just under 2km, before reaching the wooded area of Tête du Lac and then the north shore of Lac de Joux. You'll then discover a succession of small beaches and picnic spots in the L'Arcadie - Le Rocheray - Les Esserts-de-Rive sector.
After 6km of effort, the path leaves the inhabited area and continues towards the Pointe de sable for 1km. Shortly after this, the main climb of the route appears, leading the hiker to the village of Le Lieu. A few hundred metres further on, you return to the open countryside between wooded pastures and cliffs until you reach Le Pont at the 13th kilometre.
Crossing the village, you can admire the lake from the far end and begin the return journey by heading for the other shore. The trail continues "with your feet in the water" and takes you as far as L'Abbaye (15km), then Les Bioux (19km), where there are a number of pitches where you can take a short break.
After almost 22km, you reach a wooden footbridge that leads away from the shore through a reedbed until you reach the river L'Orbe at L'Orient. All that remains is to walk along it back to the starting point to complete the 25km of this walk.
For those wishing to discover Lac de Joux on a shorter hike, it is possible to choose either shore and return by public transport.
