When arriving from Switzerland or France, you notice it rising up beyond the foliage to the south of the area.
For centuries, it has been an attraction and has also encouraged research by historians. A symbol of past grandeur, it was built on the final fold of the Jura chain at the end of a rocky spur. The clear view it provides from its summit to the entrance of the Allaine Valley and the Belfort Gap makes it an incomparable strategic point. It is almost ten metres wide and about twenty metres in height.
