The Museum of Murten is one of the oldest museums in the canton of Fribourg. Since 1978, it has been located in the old town mill just outside the city walls. The mill itself showcases the rich and varied history of this picturesque building, spanning more than five centuries.

The permanent exhibition documents 6,000 years of history of the town of Murten and the surrounding region. Museum objects tell their own stories – and those of the people who lived at the time:
• Lakeside settlements from the Neolithic and Bronze Age
• Life and work in the medieval town
• Murten under the rule of Bern and Fribourg
• The path into the modern era
A dramatically staged multimedia show brings to life the events of the memorable Battle of Murten.
Every year, the museum presents new temporary exhibitions.
