From the ancient lake-dwellers to the Battle of Morat, in this former mill you will discover the history of the region. The museum's permanent exhibition evokes 150 years of archaeological digs on the shores of the Lake of Morat.

Fields of piles made their appearance 150 years ago in winter when the water level of Swiss lakes was at its lowest. These vestiges were understood to be the remains of an ancient form of habitation constructed by our ancestors, who made their entry into history books under the name "lake-dwellers". Thanks to the most recent archaeological research, we now have a good understanding of the daily life of these first waterside villages.

The first lacustrine habitations date back to the Neolithic Age. It was at this time that men were gradually becoming sedentary, devoting themselves to agriculture and animal breeding. Well preserved objects from these groups of dwellings by the Lake of Morat give an idea of the crafts and everyday life of farming families.

Through the museum's various exhibitions, the visitor will discover many other aspects of Morat's history, as well as the artistic and cultural life of the region.
