The American bison is a large wild bovid that can weigh up to 1,200 kilos and live for up to 30 years.
"We were passing through Boncourt, where we had been told that there were bisons. Out of curiosity, we went looking for them. A local resident showed us the way and the teepee where we should leave our car. The owner was there, busy repairing a fence. He explained to us that the site was not ready for tourists yet and might not be safe. But he soon offered to give us a lift in the back of his 4X4 to see the animals from nearby. It was impressive to see the muscle mass and size of the bisons (even the small ones) and we were glad to be in the car looking at them... For a few moments we thought we were in the Wild West - the only thing missing was the Indians on the horizon!"
