The history of St-Imier begins around the year 600, with the arrival of Imier, a hermit pioneer from Ajoie. A real metamorphosis took place in the 1700s with the appearance of watchmaking.
"Although St-Imier has only kept a few reminders of its distant past due to the three major fires which destroyed the town in 1839, 1843 and 1856, there are still some buildings that predate this period, and I found that it really is worthwhile to discover them. I also enjoyed spending a little time in the streets, discovering buildings and museums as I strolled through this peaceful place where urban life meets nature."
