Once a hospital in the town of the prince-bishops, now a museum with a striking façade.

A visit to the Hôtel-Dieu Museum is also a way to discover one of the most beautiful buildings in Porrentruy, the hospital which, from 1765 to 1956, cared for the sick of the city and the entire region. For its construction, the bourgeois authorities of the time called on Pierre-François Paris, the official architect for the last three prince-bishops of Basel.

Professor Gustave Amweg, a leading advocate for the Jura's heritage, was the driving force behind the creation of the Porrentruy Museum. He tirelessly collected material evidence of the Jura's history throughout his life.

The museum has several permanent rooms:

The Pharmacy
The main object in the permanent collection is undoubtedly the pharmacy of the Hôtel-Dieu, whose location already appeared in the plans of architect Pierre-François Paris around 1765.
Beautifully crafted by cabinetmaker Jean-Baptiste Carraz in 1846, this room bears witness to the former hospital structure. The pharmacy was used by the hospital nurses until 1956.

The treasure of St-Pierre Church
Three masterpieces from the end of the 15th century created by Basel-based goldsmith Georges Schongauer make up the most important body of Gothic goldsmithery in the Jura. This leading collection of liturgical objects is grouped together in the "Treasure Room" along with Gothic, Baroque and historical items.

Prints
The print room, the photographic collection of Albert Perronne (more than 28,000 documents), the lithographic collection of the Imprimerie Frossard and the Jean Gressot collection and library show the Jura region and its artists on various media.

Watchmaking
The room dedicated to watchmaking (Georges Juillard and Raymond Beaumann collection) and the stonemasons' workshop highlight a vital industry for the Porrentruy region.

In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum annually holds three temporary exhibitions around society, history and art in the Jura.
