On 8 November 2026 at 5.00 pm, the Biel Seeland Concert Choir will perform this year’s annual concert, entitled “Moving, solemn and elegant: works by Puccini and Dvořák”, at the Biel Congress Centre.
In all three works, the focus is on singing, expression and timbre, characterised by the late Romantic, emotional musical language. The works combine solemn, jubilant passages with calmer, lyrical or contemplative moments. This creates a varied, dramatic structure that lends itself exceptionally well to an engaging concert at the Biel Congress Centre.
The choir plays an important role in all the works. The solo parts often mark the emotional climax. Both Puccini and Dvořák use the orchestra not only for accompaniment but also to enhance the expressiveness of the music. The close connection between text, singing and musical interpretation makes the concert an emotional experience for the audience.
The Biel Seeland Concert Choir is supported by the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra (TOBS!) and the highly experienced soloists Jana Kurucovà (soprano), Juraj Holly (tenor) and Wolf H. Latzel (baritone), who are perfectly suited to the programme. Fausto Corbo is the musical director.
The programme features the Messa a 4 voci con orchestra, also known as the Messa di Gloria, by Giacomo Puccini; the Te Deum by Antonín Dvořák, which he wrote to mark the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s discovery of the Americas and performed in New York; and the Biblical Songs, which he composed during his time in New York.
