Matthias Schemel, born in 1962 in Frankfurt and better known as Thitz, has made a name for himself internationally thanks to his unique ‘Bag Art’. He transforms everyday shopping bags, collected in cities such as New York, London or Paris, into canvases on which he paints vivid urban scenes and natural landscapes.
Thitz’s works are not mere illustrations; they pulsate with life, reflect the hustle and bustle and charm of urban spaces, and invite contemplation with an optimistic, often naive style. His images capture the sounds, smells and endless flow of information in a city, with the bags serving as subtle commentary on consumerism. His art is featured in renowned collections such as those of Frieder Burda and Würth and has found admirers all over the world. Be inspired by the fascinating world of Thitz, which combines humour, vivacity and a deep attachment to the peoples and cultures of the world.
Discover an exhibition that captures the pulse of metropolises and shows that great art often begins where others see only packaging. Immerse yourself in a world full of positivity, urbanity and visionary power.
