In the Grand Marais, the least weasel still darts along hedgerows, rare bats flutter through the forests, and the polecat hunts amphibians. It is this diversity, among other things, that makes the Grand Marais a beautiful and liveable place.
At the same time, the Grand Marais is criss-crossed by many roads. We appreciate this, as roads usually take us to our destination without detours. Wildlife shares the same desire to move freely. However, on their journeys, they do not need roads or gravel paths, but forest edges, hedgerows and ditches.
In this lecture, we will delve into the world of small mammals and discuss the state of ecological connectivity for wildlife in the Grand Marais.
