Curated by a group of students from the Master’s programme in Museum Studies at the University of Neuchâtel, based on the KBCB collection, the exhibition «The Beat of Assemblage» presents two episodes in the history of an artistic genre known as assemblage. The principle behind this technique, already explored by Picasso, the Dadaists and the Surrealists, consists of bringing together different materials and objects – most often discarded items from the artists’ immediate environment – to create a two- or three-dimensional work. The exhibition focuses in particular on Californian artists from the early 1960s, comparing them with a series of contemporary positions.
