The Prix Photoforum annually showcases a diverse selection of photographic voices through an open call, a group exhibition, and an award. The 2025 edition presents thirteen artists whose projects reflect a broad spectrum of photographic approaches from documentary and staged photography to audiovisual installation and archival work. Their practices negotiate urgent contemporary questions relating to memory, identity, and our connection to place, the environment, and history. The selection reflects the diversity and depth of today’s photographic field, and underlines Photoforum’s commitment to supporting experimental, engaged, and formally inventive image practices.
An external jury consisting of Anne Wyrsch (photo editor, Le Temps), Manuel Sigrist (curator, Photo Elysée), Katrin Sperry (curator and cultural scholar), and Patricia von Ah (artist and researcher) chaired by Amelie Schüle, director and curator of Photoforum, reviewed more than 190 submissions in a multi-step process. In a final in-person session in Biel/Bienne, they selected thirteen artists for the group exhibition and awarded two prizes.
The first prize goes to Yohan Nieto for his visual exploration of Francoist violence and collective memory. The second prize is awarded to Ianne Kenfack Kitio, whose self-portraits subvert colonial gazes and challenge conventional narratives.
