Founded eight centuries ago by the Dukes of Zähringen, the old town of Murten is a sightseer's paradise. The ramparts, the towers and castles, the Grande-Rue with its vaulted arcades, and the picturesque cobbled streets make Murten one of the best preserved medieval towns in Switzerland.
