Stopping at two must-visit 'métairies' in the Grand Chasseral region, on this gourmet trail along the Montoz heights you can enjoy a range of local products. After the climb up from Malleray or Péry you are rewarded with a three-course meal (apéritif, main, dessert) served in a farmhouse inn typical of the Grand Chasseral region, where you are guaranteed a warm welcome and plenty of conviviality. Warning: this walk is recommended for good walkers. Some sections may be difficult to access. Good hiking or trekking shoes are essential.
Three itineraries are suggested:
Angus itinerary
From the Péry train station, you will go up to the Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte, where a local aperitif will be served. Then, you continue by the heights of Montoz in direction of the Bergerie de Malleray to taste a delicious Angus steak produced on the farm and to finish sweetly with an iced dessert.
Total walking time of about 5 hours. Péry train station - Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte : about 1h50. Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte - Bergerie de Malleray: about 1h20.
Rösti itinerary
A second itinerary leaves from the Malleray train station. After the walk up the hill, you will taste a sausage as an aperitif at the Bergerie de Malleray, before continuing to the Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte to taste the traditional ham-rösti served in the farmhouses, with a dessert proposed by the house.
Total walking time of about 5h15. Malleray train station - Bergerie de Malleray : about 1h50. Bergerie de Malleray - Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte : about 1h20.
Gentle Horizon Itinerary
For families and less experienced hikers, we recommend parking directly at the Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte or the Bergerie de Malleray, then doing a round-trip hike along the Montoz ridge. For children, ham will be served instead of Angus beef at the Bergerie de Malleray.
Total walking time is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
When registering for this itinerary, please indicate in the comments which métairie you wish to start from (the one you depart from is also where you will have the aperitif).

- This gourmet hike, with stops at two of the must-visit métairies of the Grand Chasseral on the heights of Montoz, invites you to discover regional specialities. The ascent of Montoz from Court or Péry is rewarded with a three-course meal (aperitif, main course and dessert) served in métairies — the region’s typical farm inns, where hospitality and conviviality are paramount.

- “Country Flavours” Route
- Starting from Péry railway station, you climb towards Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte, where a regional aperitif will be served. You then continue along the Montoz ridge towards the mountain inn Pré-Richard to enjoy a delicious grilled sausage, finishing with a homemade dessert.
- Total walking time: approx. 6 hours
- Péry station – Pré-la-Patte: approx. 1 hr 50 min
- Pré-la-Patte – Pré-Richard: approx. 1 hr 40 min
- Return to Péry: approx. 2 hr 30 min
- “Rösti” Route
- A second route starts from Court railway station. After the ascent on foot, you will enjoy a regional aperitif at the mountain inn Pré-Richard before continuing to Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte to taste the traditional ham and rösti served in the métairies, followed by a homemade dessert.
- Total walking time: approx. 5 hr 20 min
- Court station – Pré-Richard: approx. 1 hr 50 min
- Pré-Richard – Pré-la-Patte: approx. 1 hr 30 min
- Return to Sorvilier station: approx. 1 hr 50 min
- “Gentle Horizon” Route
- For families and less experienced hikers, we recommend parking directly at Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte or at the mountain inn Pré-Richard and walking an out-and-back route via the Montoz ridge.

- Departure from Péry railway station between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. (arrival for the aperitif requested between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.), then departure from Bergerie du Pré-la-Patte no later than 11:30 a.m. (arrival for lunch requested by 1:00 p.m. at the latest).
- Rösti Route:
- Departure from Court railway station between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. (arrival for the aperitif requested between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.), then departure from Bergerie de Malleray no later than 11:30 a.m. (arrival for lunch requested by 1:00 p.m. at the latest).
- Gentle Horizon Route:
- Arrival between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. at one of the two bergeries (parking available on site), then departure from the first bergerie no later than 11:30 a.m.
