In the Yverdon-les-Bains region, the magnificent Clunisian town of Romainmôtier is a delight for history and nature lovers. The Iron Furnace Trail caters for both these passions along a lovely walk leading to twin furnaces probably dating from the 6th century.

Starting from Romainmôtier, the Iron Furnace Trail is an easy walk which is accessible all year round. It takes walkers through a beautiful oak tree forest to an archaeological site with two iron furnaces probably dating from the 6th century. These furnaces, used in the olden days to reduce iron ore, are a unique testament to the region’s activities and the role played by Romainmôtier at the beginning of the Middle Ages.

Just over 7 km long, the walk takes about 2 ¼ hours. Although the path is quite flat, sturdy walking shoes are advised.
