In the heart of the Northern vaud, Romainmôtier is a fine example of Cluniac architecture and the verdant Vallon du Nozon hides many secrets. This walk reveals one of them, namely the secret of the many fountains here. The path along the river leads to the old quarry where the basins of the fountains were extracted.

In 19th century Switzerland, public fountains were very important. They supplied the inhabitants with drinking water but they also performed a social role when the women and children met there to do their household chores. In the Romainmôtier area, the many fountains were fed by the Nozon River and created using limestone from the Chanay quarry. The Fountain Trail (moderate difficulty) is a beautiful walk following the river to the former site of the quarry and on to the beautiful waterfalls of the Dard.

Walkers start in Romainmôtier or Croy. The path can be walked all year round but visitors are recommended to check on the condition before setting off.
