This is the oldest building of its kind in the Bernese Jura. Dating from 1535, it belongs to a type of farmhouse with a covered area, open on one side, connecting the house and outbuildings (“devant-huis” type building) and is listed as a historic monument of national importance.
The “Banneret Wisard” farmhouse in Grandval, dating from 1535, is one of the oldest buildings in Switzerland and the oldest farm of the Bernese Jura. A real living museum, it is one of the last smokehouses still in use: meat is smoked and bread and pies are made in the wood-fired oven. The guided tours, available on request, allow the visitor to fully appreciate the construction. They take the visitors through the building and its history. The activity of the smokehouse and the development of the plants in the garden give a glimpse of the work carried out through the seasons.
