Every first weekend of October horse-drawn wagons make their way from the vineyards of Lavaux to Payerne, bearing a precious liquid cargo, the first pressings of the freshly harvested grapes.
Driven by Daniel Jomini since 1996, this cavalcade follows the route taken by drivers and their steeds in days of old. Over the course of the two-day journey, the wagons will stop off at villages along the way, giving locals an opportunity to sample the produce of Payerne’s vineyards.
Many festivities take place during the whole day on Saturday on the Place Général Guisan (in front of the Coop). Pumpkin carving and decoration workshops for will be taking place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Musical entertainment with the Ambassador Orchestra, refreshments, donkey rides and a petting zoo all day long.
