Global agenda for sustainable livestock

Delémont 14th to 20th June 2020

The 10th annual Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) Multi Stakeholder Partnership (MSP) meeting will be held 14th to 20th of Juni in Delémont, Switzerland. Presentations, panels, posters, field tours, and discussion throughout the week will focus on the theme "The Livestock Sector: Multifunctional and sustainable ! At global, regional and national levels !"
The Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) is an international multi-stakeholder partnership with the mandate to support sustainable development of the livestock sector globally. GASL offers an open platform to discuss the complex challenges of the livestock sector on its way to sustainability. It is a unique platform, which allows participants to ensure the efforts they invest are recognized and their voice impacts the sustainability of the global livestock sector. GASL facilitates dialogue, assembles and communicates evidence and advocates for changes in practices and policies to enhance an enabling environment and conducive framework conditions for sustainable livestock development.
 
The 10th Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Meeting (GASL MSP 2020) in Delémont will showcase the features of Swiss, French and European livestock sectors and demonstrate their potential for sustainable development. With expected attendance of up to 300 decision makers from governments, international organizations and the private sector from over 50 livestock producing and importing countries. It is also a unique opportunity for International leaders working in the sector to ensure their sustainability achievements are represented and their voice is raised at the GASL discussion tables.

In Delémont, the following themes will be in the focus:

The multiple functions of livestock in sustainable development
 

·         Core theme: Multiple Roles of Livestock
·         Key elements for a sustainable livestock sector at global, European and         
          Swiss levels
·         Field visits: Cases of successful practice change in the Swiss and French
          Livestock based value chains
·         Livestock and culture: e.g. cow fights, the multiple roles of the local horse
          breed, alpine livestock culture and products

Objectives

 ·        The multiple roles of the livestock sector in support of sustainable       
          development will be introduced with science-based inputs. These inputs will
          be discussed and validated by the participants of all clusters of GASL.
·         In policy fora, essential political frame conditions will be discussed and further
          developed. Enabling frame conditions considering and fostering the multiple
          roles of livestock will lead to sustainability in livestock-based value chains.
·         During targeted field visits examples of best practices and practice change
          along the entire livestock based value chains will be shown.

In Delémont, the conference venue, and its immediate surroundings (radius of 35 km) there are different types and categories of accommodation available. For participants with accommodation outside of Delémont, transport by bus will be organised.
