The program is based on a short French opera titled “Hippolyte et Aricie” by Rameau. The opening is followed by dances, ritornellos and arias.
Although Rameau was an organist his entire life, he hasn’t left us a single piece for organ. Its two keyboards and the orchestral colours give the collegiate church’s historic organ an inherent theatricality. Listen to a trio for crumhorn and cornet, and you will notice the similarity with the orchestra’s own reed trio. All the prerequisites are in place to bring the music of Rameau to the gallery.
And the voice can reach its full potential alongside the “organ orchestra”!
