Nina Childress - Eyelashes and Hair

From to

Since 1980, Nina has been working on a body of work which, under the guise of iconographic heterogeneity, examines the structuring elements of Western popular culture.

The representation of the body is always central, even when it is approached in an allusive or abstract manner. However, it is not only the body for its own sake that is evoked, but also the body as a tool of representation. Nina Childress works on this issue by blurring her images or by painting her works 'badly'. She paints celebrities whose hair identifies them, such as Patrick Juvet, to whom an entire room is devoted. Finally, she uses phosphorescent pigments and immerses some of her works in darkness, which are then transformed under the black light of torch lamps.
